ABSTRACT: The Estación Fitopatolóxica do Areeiro receives samples from several woody ornamentals cultivated in Galicia, identifying, among others, fungal pathogens. The identification is based on the combination of morphological and molecular techniques (nested-PCR, specific PCR, and sequencing with universal primers ITS1-ITS4). Several quarantine pathogens such as Ciborinia camelliae and Phytophthora ramorum have been identified using these methods. In this work pathogenic fungi recently identified on woody ornamentals in Galicia are described. Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. canariensis was detected on Phoenix canariensis. Taphrina coerulescens was found on Quercus rubra leaves; Didymascella thujina on Thuja plicata leaves; Cylindrocladium ilicicola and Phytophthora ilicis on Ilex sp. leaves; and Phoma glomerata and Volutella buxi on Buxus sempervirens leaves. Phytophthora foliorum, recently detected on azalea leaves, was also isolated from azalea root.
