HETEROBOSTRYCHUS HAMATIPENNIS Lesne
(Coleoptera: Bostrichidae: Bostrichinae) DETECTION IN
SPAIN
In September 2007 the bostrychid
Heterobostrychus hamatipennis was detected in a fibre sample from a palm
tree highly affected from a private garden. It is a polyphagous and xylophagous
species of Asian origin, that both on adult stage and as a larvae, feeds on dry
wood from standing trees and/or fallen trees from different species among them
willows, bamboos, and other woody species with a high starch content in their
sapwood. The plant was removed and burned before a monitoring of the evolution
of damages could be performed. At present, the species is not established
because this constituted an isolated detection.
In Europe, the
only reference reported so far was its detection in Belgium (EPPO Reporting
Service, 2005) on Salix sp. material imported from China in October
2004.
