DETECTION OF POLYPHAGOTARSONEMUS LATUS
Banks ON CAMELLIA IN GALICIA
Polyphagotarsonemus latus has a large host range and is
widely distributed in subtropical and mild areas
around the world. In summer 2007 it was detected in Galicia on Camellia
japonica plants growing in the nursery, producing stunted growth, curling
of young and tender leaves (usually to leaf underside) and bronzed leaves on
the underside. Since P. latus life cycle is very short, in the nursery,
measures were rapidly carried out, isolating affected plant species from
healthy plants, and applying acaricides to control mite populations. This mite
was not detected again in our region.
