It has been the 28th
anniversary of the
phytosanitary bulletin issued by the Plant pathology
Service of the Pontevedra
provincial government. Since then its aim was to help farmers and public
bodies on the health of agricultural and forestry species. In this bulletin, we
inform on the evolution of the diseases and pests affecting crops and the
control measures that should be carried out in each case.
Firstly, the
publication was issued on a monthly basis, and was sent to the farmer by
subscription; or through the media: television, press or radio. Through the
local radio station, apart from listening to the information included in the
bulletin, farmers could place a query and receive personalized advice.
At present, although the aim of the bulletin and the service of
phytosanitary warnings remained unchanged, the way in which this information
reach the farmer has improved, partly thanks to the new technologies, and
becuse the centre has more staff and facilities.
Since 2001 the web
page of the Plant Pathology Station has a
service of phytosanitary warnings, in which the
information reaches the farmer without delay. As soon as a certain pest or
disease is detected, on the basis of the data collected in the field or on the
environmental conditions of the area, the phytosanitary warning is launched on
the web. In the last year 2008, this service, associated to the
Photo
Gallery of the EFA was visited by
12.000 internet users.
