ABSTRACT: This is the first report of the Phytophthora alni subsp. uniformis fungus on Alnus glutinosa in Spain. This subspecies only affects the Alnus genus and together with P. alni subsp. alni, detected in Galicia in 2009, and P. alni subsp. multiformis, is causing important damages in Galician alders, mainly in those growing along river banks.

The first detection in Spain of this new fungus subspecies next to the river Deza in Silleda municipalty (Pontevedra province) was reported in the present work. This fungus is described both morphologically and molecularly. To test pathogenicity, fungus isolates were also inoculated in A. glutinosa plants growing in pots.
